Monumental Milers Program (juMMP)
A partnership
with the District
of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation
- What: The Junior Monumental
Milers Program is a physical education program
challenge for D.C. Recreation Centers that promotes
the daily habit of running and/or walking for fitness,
long life and good health. The program will encourage
youth to run/walk 26 miles over the course of 17-week
period.

- Who: The is a free incentive-based
fitness program for elementary and middle school-aged
children of all fitness levels. Miles run will
be documented on individual runner’s log
by DC Department of Recreation staff.
- When: To Be Determined
- How: Participants can register

at their Local
Recreation Center and track their
progress on a Running
Log. Students will receive incentive
items at various mile markers along their way.
These incentive items will be available at designated
locations.

- Where: Children can run or walk
their miles at their local recreation center whenever
they can – afterschool or on the weekend.
Either indoors or outdoors – weather permitting.
Children will report their mileage to DPR staff
who will document it in the participant's Running
Log.

- Goals:
1. Encourage 1,800 elementary and middle school
children to be more active.
2. Establish consistent exercise habits.
3. Increase community support and awareness of
youth fitness.
4. Boost interest in running not only for fitness
but as a competitive sport.
