Race Details



2009 Qualifying Standards:

You must run under one of these times at any race event which publishes results in order to qualify for our Marathon or Half Marathon. Note - a 5k or 8k time will only qualify you for the Half Marathon. And for more further information regarding Qualifying Standards - CLICK HERE

marathon - 5:00:00 (qualifies for the marathon and half-marathon)

half-marathon - 2:30:00 (qualifies for the marathon and half-marathon)

ten-miler - 1:50:00 (qualifies for the marathon and half-marathon)

15k - 1:46:00 (qualifies for the marathon and half-marathon)

12k - 1:18:00 (qualifies for the marathon and half-marathon)

10k - 1:05:00 (qualifies for the marathon and half-marathon)

8k/5 miles - 52:00 (qualifies for half-marathon only)

4 miler - 41:00 (qualifies for half-marathon only

5k - 31:00 (qualifies for half-marathon only)


Qualification window is from January 1st, 2003 to present

    Official Race Time: 7:00am (both races start at the same time)

    6:30am - First Call to the Starting Line
    6:40am - Second Call to the Starting Line
    6:45am - Final Call to the Starting Line

    - Wheelchair Athlete Start

    - Half Marathon/Marathon Race Start
  • 7:25am - JuMMP Program Finale

    7:30am - Finish Line Festival & Family Fun Zone Opens
    8:45am - Half Marathon Elite Awards Ceremony (approximate time)
    10:45am - Marathon Elite Awards Ceremony (approximate time)
    1:00pm - Official Close of the Finish Line

    *Note - Awards ceremony will on be for the top 5 overall places in the Men's and Womens's Marathon, as well as Master's and Wheelchair winners only. We will NOT be announcing age group awards during the event. Age Group awards will be mailed out after the event.

Age Group Divisions (full & half marathon) - Brightroom Custom Photo Certificates to top three in each age group. Awards for Age Groups will be mailed out.

Runners Village

  • Getting There The Morning Of The Race

    If you are not driving to the race start on race morning, PLEASE MAKE ALTERNATE ARRANGMENTS. The Metro is NOT open early on race morning. The easiest way to arrive to our start line is via taxi or carpooling with other runners. If you are staying at one of local hotels, call the NIGHT BEFORE to arrange a cab.

  • The Village is located at the DC Armory Mall just west of RFK Stadium. The address for RFK Stadium is 2400 East Capitol Street, S.E., Washington, D.C. 20003.

Navy Academy Marathon Pace Team

The SunTrust National Marathon is pleased to announce the return of the United States Naval Academy Marathon Team to literally "lead the pack" as our official pace team. Interstate Worldwide Relocation is the proud sponsor of the 2008 Naval Academy Marathon Pace Group. Look for the Navy Pace Team shirts (below).....they are your guides to even splits!

The NAMT will pace runners from finishing times of 3:00:00 to 4:00:00 in the
following sequence:

  • 3:00    [ 6:52 PER MILE]
  • 3:05    [ 7:03 PER MILE]
  • 3:10    [ 7:15 PER MILE]
  • 3:15    [ 7:26 PER MILE]
  • 3:20    [ 7:38 PER MILE]
